In the past, after I could not use the RO system, I got filters at Lowes' or
Home Depot--the household type--and would put them outside at the faucet.
That way the water in the tank was also filtered---but, I still never drink
the water from the tank. It did help the quality of the drinking water.
Now, no filter, just bottles.

About water...I never bought a filter of any kind...and
I have never consumed the water from my RV-tank...
Used to take what I thought I'd need for a trip from my home
faucet...and if I ran out I'd boil any from the tap outside the campsite...
In a tight spot I'd even get some from the ladies room in a diner...and boil
that...
Today I buy it for coffee and drinking...making anything that takes
water...I use bottled water...so cheap today from the stores...compared to
filter systems...but I'm only one person...and before it was usually just
Leo and Me..or the kids visiting us for a few days...
So far I've never been sick one time...
I can imagine bigger families need to do it other ways...and maybe
filtering systems are the better way for them...not sure... not ever having
done it...
but I think change alone traveling thru' different states is hard on us
all...sulpha and minerals vary...
I'll never forget Killene, Texas...that how you spell it...We were
stationed there in the 50's...at Fort Hood...I believe it was...and believe
me the water there was so filled with Sulpha I had to drink cracked ice when
we went to a restaurant..
ever drank...Hope I never to have to taste it again...lol.
I was too young then...Never even thought about boiling it...and wasn't
a coffee hound yet then...lol..
Hugs Always Viv...

I got sick from water tank water ONCE ! Since then I only use it for
things that are going to be boiled, ie. tea, coffee, and I have 'good'
water, or store bought water for drinking.
A passing cattle truck can contaminate your water tank opening, even if
it is sealed. Bacteria goes all over your rig, you touch your rig, and
there you are ! Germs.
