Hello all, my husband and I decided to go ahead and get the cardiac
ultrasound done. We went to Cornell U. They recommended an x-ray
too. And it looks like Barney has primary severe lung disease
(possible chronic pneumonia) and secondary pulmonary hypertension.
The cardiologist was baffled and had to consult with internists as
she has never seen a kitten with lung disease. They don't feel the
lung disease is reversible so are treating the hypertension. They
prescribed Clindamycin and Viagara (believe it or not). So, we will
see if there is a change in 72 hours. They also did some blood
titers which we will get the results by Monday hopefully. Now, I'm
worried because I'm pregnant and they wanted to know if my toxo came
up positive. I have to call my doctor to find out.
Brought Barney home and he was exhausted. He has trouble laying down
I think because he gets fluid buildup...so he generally sits with
his eyes closed. I held him for a few hours so he could sleep in a
comfortable position. He ate a lot after he slept and took his med
(doesn't enjoy that--at least they're both liquid). This morning he
ate very little, but so far no open mouthed breathing episodes. So,
we'll have to see if he takes to the meds or if the titers show
something..but if episodes continue we'll have to decide to put him
to sleep. I don't want him dying in agony, suffocating.
So, is there a feline group for cats with strange diagnosis? Hope
you all don't mind if I stick around here.
Thanks,
