Thank you Lyn, In Gina's case and I think she was at the humane
society for a while but when I got her she was very subdued and it
took time for her to become a happy cat....but that was in 2001,,she
is doing well as far as her life quality and disposition go..

To the group:

I have gone for a second opinion or actually to see if there is more
to do...The enlargement of the heart is concerning the fact that she
is close to reaching the 3 year point, encouraging.

The blood pressure results were great, this vet said the atenolol was
working...there was a good femural pulse and I answered no to some of
the questions he asked ie is she vomitting, is her appetite poor, is
she having problems with elimination, (yes to using the litter box)
active not hiding...well you get the picture..

I was upfront about it being a second opinion and he had suggested
aspiring to prevent heart attack...

A few more questions about aspirin::

We are on raw diet and I think this has helped all of my
cats...changed when Gina received the 3 year life expectancy given the
state of her heart at an ultrasound....

After she seemed to be breathing a like she was congested she was
placed on lasix with immediate results and the plan is to wean her off
and at the same time watching how she responds which will determine
if this drug will need to be given regularly and at which doseage..

Currently: Lasix .5 tab (40mg) 1x daily until Thursday, then 1/4 tab
lasix for another week and then 1/4 alternate days...to see if it is a
drug that she will need longterm..ie will there be
congestion..again..her lungs are clear now...she is on Atenolol (since
april 2005, and fortekor 1/2 tab since April 2005)

Questions about Aspirin:

1.Will a smaller dose of aspirin, every 3 days ie 1/4 tab or 1/2 tab
(of 81 mg) do anything for the thinning of the blood. Is it
ineffective to do so or is it in any way harmful...to give a lower
doseage than .81/2x a week?

2.If there is blood pooling or clots there will aspirin dissolve them
and cause them to move into the veins...or will it dissolve them
before that happens...I am asking this because this could be the
reason her heart is so large as well...

3.If aspirin therapy is stopped does that exasperate the problem..

4.I read "somewhere" that amino acids should not be used with aspirin
therapy...

I add vit e, salmon oil, taurine, cq10, vit d(trace), crushed
eggshells,(calcium) egg yolk, cooked whites, celery, canned pure
pumpkin, to a mixture of turkey muscle meat, chicken livers, and
gizzards in a prepared formula that my cats get as a main part of
their diets....will any of the above additives interact negatively
with aspirin...

5. The issue of internal bleeding...can aspirin at a reduced does
caution against...

If these questions are unanswerable...I apologize...my second opinion
vet said that aspirin will help prevent heart attack and I certainly
want to do that .... can I start out low...ie 1/4 pill every three
days...I know someone on the list also commented on dangers of aspirin
and its potential affects on the liver...I want to get a little more
on the doseage..as I would like to give her 1/4 every 3 days but need
to know if that is harmful or just not enough to do anything...and I
don't want to dislodge any potential clots if they are alread formed...

Does any of this make sense to anyone??
